Voting

Voting is our most cherished civil liberties enjoyed by U.S. citizens. It allows us to have a balance of power, especially when people who vote also actively engage with their representatives.

In Lockport, NY you must be a registered voter in order to participate in the all primary and general elections, as well as, Lockport City School Board Elections and Budget Votes . The more local the election, the more directly your vote impacts decisions. One person, one vote really matters at the local level. Qualifications to Register to Vote

  • be a United States citizen;

  • be 18 years old by December 31 of the year in which you file this form (note: you must be 18 years old by the date of the general, primary or other election in which you want to vote);

  • live at your present address at least 30 days before an election;

  • not be in prison or on parole for a felony conviction and;

  • not be adjudged mentally incompetent by a court;

  • not claim the right to vote elsewhere

2017 Voting by Absentee Ballot Deadlines

FOR STATE AND LOCAL PRIMARY ELECTION

Sept. 5Last day to postmark an application or letter of application by mail for an absentee ballot.

Sept. 11Last day to apply IN-PERSON for absentee ballot.

Sept. 11Last day to postmark ballot. Must be received by the local board of elections no later than Sept. 20th.

Sept. 12Last day to deliver ballot IN-PERSON to the local board of elections (by someone other than the voter).

FOR GENERAL ELECTION

Oct. 30- Last day to postmark an application or letter of application by mail for an absentee ballot.

Nov. 5- Last day to apply IN-PERSON for absentee ballot.

Nov. 5- Last day to postmark ballot. Must be received by the local board of elections no later than Nov. 15th. Military Voter Ballots must be received no later than Nov. 20th.

Nov. 6- Election Day!! Last day to deliver ballot IN-PERSON to the local board of elections (by someone other than the voter).
